The pantheon of orishas. Oggun

oggunHe is the god of iron, war, and work. Oggun clears all paths with his machete after Eleggua has opened them. He personifies violence, cunning, creativity, and integrity. He is the only orisha that has the right to take life from human beings. He is violent and malicious.

Oggun is the master of metals and the patron of mechanics, engineers, and soldiers.

He represents the collector of magical herbs and the solitary hunter, and is the owner of the  keys of prisons. He is often venerated before surgery.

His colors are green and black, and his number is 7. His objects are all metal work tools and arms.

He is syncretized with Saint Peter, Saint Paul or Saint John the Baptist, depending on the area. He is celebrated June 24.
