The fundamental pillars of this religion are the cult of ancestors or “eguns” and animist beliefs that say that all the elements of nature are animated by spirits. It is a monotheistic religion that recognizes a single god who created everything even if it has polytheistic practices.
Animism (from Latin animus) is the belief in an energy, a higher power, animating living things, objects but also the elements of nature, like the sea, the sun, lightning but also stones and earth.
This energy or spiritual manifestations are the expression of the deads or deities, which can affect people’s lives positively. It is therefore necessary to devote their worship and respect to the recommended sacrifices. Animism characterizes civilizations located on all continents since the origin of man.
