The myth of the Godfather comes from Catholicism. It is the Catholic Church that have created the concept of parenthood. In the Catholic Church the biological parents of a child choose two members of the family or friends, one male and one female. Morality accepts that they are not necessarily married. These two persons are committed to this child at the baptism ceremony, if something should happen to the biological parents, the godfathers will be there to take in charge and assume the education and well being of the child.
Note: You have the right to call and stick to a person any labels, names or titles as you like but be aware and understand that there is no concept of sponsor as in faith Catholic in the rule of Osha / Ifa.
